Committees
Committees are how the PA gets things done — events, fundraising, the garden, and more. Each is run by a small group of parent volunteers and always welcomes new members. Find one that fits and join in.

What do committees do?
Each committee runs one part of the PA's work for the school year. Members set the direction, build the team, and work with the executive board to get things done. Most members spend a few hours a week, with busier stretches around major events.
Shape PA programs
Drive the agenda for your committee — propose initiatives, set priorities, and see projects through from idea to execution.
Recruit & support members
Build your committee by welcoming volunteers, delegating tasks, and making sure everyone feels useful and included.
Attend monthly PA meetings
Represent your committee at general PA meetings, share updates, and coordinate with the executive board.
Manage the committee budget
Work with the treasurer to request funds, track spending, and report back to the PA on how money was used.
Communicate with the community
Keep families informed about your committee's work through newsletters, social media, and PA announcements.
Collaborate with other committees
Many PA initiatives span multiple committees. Great committee members build relationships and work across committee lines.
Good to know
- How do I join a committee? Press I'd like to join on a committee above, or email its members directly. If it doesn't have any yet, email parents@ps889pa.org instead.
- How are committee members chosen? Many are elected each spring alongside the executive board. Committees marked above as looking for members still have room — anyone who expresses interest is welcome.
- Is joining a year-long commitment? Usually — committee members typically serve for the full school year, from September through June.
- Do I need prior PA experience? Not at all. We'll connect you with the committee's past members (if there are any) and the executive board to get you up to speed.
- How many people are on a committee? Most have two or more. Sharing the work makes it more sustainable and brings in different perspectives.
- Can I start a new committee? The PA forms committees as needs arise. Email parents@ps889pa.org with your idea and the board will talk it through with you.
