Welcome & Mission

Welcome to PS 889. Whether your family just joined our school or you've been here for years, you are part of something special.

PS 889 is located in one of Brooklyn's most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods. Our families come from all over the world, speak dozens of languages, and bring an incredible range of perspectives, traditions, and talents to our school community. That diversity is one of our greatest strengths and it's what makes this place feel like home.

The Parent Association exists for one reason: to make sure every child at PS 889 has the richest possible experience. We fund the programs the budget can't cover, we create the events that bring families together, and we advocate so that every student and family has a voice.

Our mission

The PS 889 Parent Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the education, lives, and community of every student at PS 889. We bring families together, fund programs that open doors to new experiences, and ensure that all voices in our diverse school community are heard and valued.

What we do

Fund enrichment programs

Arts residencies, science workshops, field trips, author visits, and more; experiences that go beyond the classroom and spark curiosity.

Build community

Movie nights, seasonal celebrations, the annual auction, and school-wide events that give families a reason to come together and connect.

Advocate for families

We work with school leadership and the DOE to make sure parent voices are part of every conversation that affects our kids.

Support the school

From classroom supplies to equipment upgrades, we fill the gaps so that teachers and staff have what they need to do their best work.

Who we are

Every parent and guardian of a current PS 889 student is automatically a member of the PA. There are no dues and no sign-up required. If your child goes here, you're in.

The PA is led by an elected Executive Board and governed by bylaws aligned with NYC Chancellor's Regulation A-660. But the real impact happens because of the dozens of parent volunteers who show up: chairing committees, organizing events, running concessions, and everything in between.

Get involved

The PA runs entirely on volunteer energy. There's no minimum commitment! Whether you can give an hour at an event or help lead a committee, there's a place for you.
