After School Programs

A variety of after-school and enrichment programs are available to PS 889 students. Contact each program directly to enroll or ask questions.

Kids Orbit

ScheduleMonday–Friday, 2:30–6:00 pm
LocationOn-site at PS 889

PK-5 Kids Orbit operates full scale after school programs. They are warm and welcoming, providing children with a family-like atmosphere for their after school hours. Kids Orbit offers the kind of flexibility that families need. They supervise homework and offer a variety of enrichment activities ranging from yoga and sports to art, music and drama. They sit quietly and read and draw, play board games with friends, laugh and have a lot of fun.

Sports United

ScheduleMonday–Friday, 2:30–6:00 pm
LocationOn-site at PS 889

PK-5 Students participate in recreational sports, receive homework help, and enjoy a nutritious snack. Scholarship opportunities are available for families with financial need — contact our Parent Coordinator to apply.

Alden Moves (Dance)

ScheduleTuesdays, school dismissal to 5:15 pm — ages 5–10
LocationOn-site at PS 889

PK-5 Dance Explorers are on site, a full schedule of dance is available at the studio with pick up from PS 889. Five need-based free spots are available. Contact aldenmovesbk@gmail.com to request a scholarship application.

Chess Club

ScheduleFridays, 2:15–5:00 pm (extended day until 6:00 pm available)
LocationOn-site at PS 889

K-5 Open to all skill levels, from complete beginners to tournament players. A second session may be added if there is enough interest.

K-5 Programs include homework help, performing and visual arts, and physical education. Currently funded for up to 60 students.

Rosebud Art Studio

ScheduleWednesdays on-site, 3:00–6:00 pm (assembly at 2:30 pm) — also offers pickup from school on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays
LocationOn-site at PS 889 (Wednesdays)

K-5 Students explore drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and pottery. Students may choose a 2-hour or 3-hour class. Rolling admissions throughout the year.

Brooklyn Acting Lab

ScheduleHas programming at their South Slope location M-F (but K option only on Fridays); end time ranges between 4:30-6

K-5 The theater magic of BAL continues with after-school theater programming offered at three convenient Park Slope locations. Brooklyn Acting Lab offers a diverse menu of theater classes for kids of all ages. If 3+ kids sign up for same day at South Slope location (1012 8th Avenue, BK), can likely arrange for pickup.

Wilder Forest School Pod

LocationProspect Park

PK-5 Weekly pickup requires a minimum enrollment of 6 students. Free play and inquiry-based learning outdoors in a small group setting with passionate nature and arts educators

PK-5 Offers group guitar classes, theater, and music lab.

The Craft Salon

ScheduleMonday–Friday, 3:30–5:30 pm — pickup from PS 889 at dismissal
Location625 Church Ave, Kensington

K-5 Craft Salon explores every kind of art and craft material possible - from drawing and painting to weaving, clay, sewing, papier mache, and so much more. Also offers 5 days of ceramics after school where students are immersed into the world of hand-building and wheel-thrown ceramics.

The Tiny Scientist

ScheduleMondays, 3:00–5:30 pm — pickup from PS 889

PK-5 They take the B68 bus to Windsor Terrace. Pickup available when 3 or more PS 889 students register for the same day.

Viva Art Studio

Creativity Pro Soccer

Make Chem Possible

K-5 STEM-focused, project-based program with homework support and all materials provided. Each day of the week follows a specific theme.

Brooklyn Click & Connect

SchedulePickup from PS 889

2nd - 4th grade LEGO building program offering free building time, thematic projects, and STEM building prompts. Other grade bands are considered on a case-by-case basis.
